The main difference between self-ligating braces and traditional metal or clear braces is they do not have colored elastics to hold in the wire. Instead, each bracket is designed to hold the wire into place by a built-in mechanism in order to eliminate the need for elastic ties to hold the wire into the bracket. How Do Self-Ligating Braces Work?

Made of stainless steel (like traditional metal braces) or clear ceramic, your new self-ligating braces will straighten your teeth with a built-in clip that holds the arch wire in place. Not having an elastic to hold the arch wire means less friction in your mouth and a decrease in the amount of pressure on the teeth, which will ultimately give you the most comfort during treatment.

Self-ligating braces also offers quicker teeth movement (about 6 months faster) compared to conventional braces and fewer appointments in our office. Once the self-ligating braces are placed on the teeth, the patient will have to return every 8 to 10 weeks for adjustments.
