Before you know it, fun activities like swimming, enjoying nature, and much-awaited summer vacations will have passed and we’ll find ourselves school supply shopping for the new school year ahead. Travel Toothbrush And Toothpaste

To encourage your child to brush after meals, be sure to pack a toothbrush and toothpaste in their care kit. To save room, you can purchase travel sizes of these items as they are often two of the largest care accessories to pack. Travel toothbrushes will frequently have some kind of lid or cover as well, helping keep the toothbrush clean and sanitary between uses.

Floss and Threaders

No after-meal brushing is complete without flossing to ensure that any remaining food particles that are stuck between the teeth or behind wires are removed. It can be challenging and time-consuming to try and floss with braces, so be sure to include a pack of floss threaders in your child’s kit to help make flossing easier.

Mouth Mirror

If you’ve ever had braces, you know how frustrating it can be to feel like you have something stuck in your braces or have a rogue wire poking your cheek. Even worse is when it’s near a back bracket or somewhere not easily visible. Including a dental mirror will help your child view parts of his or her mouth that can be hard to see, making it easier to pinpoint problems.

Wax Strips

In the event your child has a bracket or wire come loose, it can be handy to have wax strips to protect the cheeks and gums until he or she can be seen by the orthodontists. There are several options of wax strips available on the market today, and some come in mint flavor to be more pleasant.

Various Interdental Brushes

For times when your child doesn’t have access to a sink and water in order to brush their teeth following a meal, try including various sizes of interdental brushes in the care kit. These handy little brushes are great for cleaning those smaller, harder to reach spots and frequently come in multi-packs for convenience.

Spare Rubber Bands And Appliance Case

If your child requires elastics as part of his or her orthodontic treatment, be sure to include a pack of spare rubber bands in your child’s care kit. If a band breaks throughout the day, having access to a quick replacement can help keep your child’s treatment on track. Likewise, if your child uses an oral appliance, be sure to include a spare case for the appliance for proper storage. This will ensure the appliance stays clean and won’t get broken when not being worn.

Travel Case

After you gather all the care supplies, you’ll need something in which to pack them! The travel case doesn’t have to be anything fancy, but should be something that your child will feel comfortable taking with them into the bathroom. We recommend including your child in the process of purchasing the case so they can pick out one they like.
